Harben Vale Cherries works a flat, easy-walking orchard on Altmanns Road at Balhannah, with up to a dozen varieties ripening across the season. The Altmann family post daily prices through the season, and the orchard is one of the few in the Hills that welcomes dogs.
Entry is $10 for ages 12 and over, $4 for ages 5 to 12 and free under 5, with picked cherries charged per kilo on top; cash and EFTPOS both work, with a small card surcharge. Open 9am to 4pm on picking days and visitors need to be in the orchard by 3pm. Groups larger than eight must text to book the night before, and no outside fruit is allowed because of fruit fly rules.
Pro tip: prices drop as the season runs on, so mid January picking is the value window.
