Cherries at Verdun grows its fruit on the historic Gallasch Homestead at Balhannah, farmed by the same family since 1847, with 360 degree views across the Onkaparinga Valley. It is about five minutes from Hahndorf, and its Friday twilight sessions are a genuinely different way to pick.

Good to Know
Entry for the most recent season was $8 for adults, $4 for children aged 6 to 12 and free under 5, with picked fruit charged separately by weight. Usual hours are 10am to 4pm, but the orchard closes early above 34 degrees and stays shut on catastrophic fire ban days, so check before setting out on a hot day.
Pro tip: the Friday twilight session is cooler, quieter and far better for photographs than a Sunday morning.
