Willowbank Cherries is a family-run cherry orchard at Whanregarwen on the Goulburn River flats near Alexandra, about two hours north-east of Melbourne. It is a genuine country u-pick: quiet rows, friendly owners, eat as many cherries as you like while you pick, and pay only for what you carry home.
U-pick is by appointment only, so phone or message the farm before making the drive. Pricing is set each season and paid by weight on what you take home; eating while picking is free. The trip pairs naturally with a day around Alexandra, Eildon or the rail trail towns. The Goulburn Valley's warm days and cool nights suit cherries well, and the small scale of the orchard means fruit is picked at full ripeness rather than early. Roadside stall stock moves quickly on summer weekends, so the orchard appointment remains the reliable way to secure fruit.
Pro tip: appointment-only picking means the trees are never stripped; even late-season visits find good fruit.
