The Berry Dairy at Maffra in central Gippsland is a working dairy farm that took silver at the 2025 Victorian Tourism Awards. Five patches of spray-free strawberries anchor the experience, with a petting zoo, playgrounds, a dog park and dairy tractor tours around them.
The cafe, shop, dog park and playgrounds are free to enter; picking and the petting zoo are covered by a paid Farm Pass bought on arrival (no pre-booking needed), which includes a strawberry credit toward a punnet. The farm runs seasonally from about October to May and closes over winter. It is a two and a half hour drive from Melbourne, so best planned as part of a Gippsland weekend. The dog park makes it one of the few picking farms where the whole household, four-legged members included, can come along for the day.
Pro tip: the Farm Pass includes animal food; arrive early and do the petting zoo before the day heats up.
