Lomas Orchards has been growing fruit at Wallington on the Bellarine Peninsula since 1938, and is best known today for its heritage apple varieties and its long-running pick-your-own strawberries. The farm shop and cafe pour locally roasted coffee, making it an easy stop between Geelong and Ocean Grove.
Apples, pears and stone fruit are sold through the farm shop as they come into season.
Open Wednesday to Saturday, 10am-4pm, with hours varying between winter and summer; check their Facebook before visiting. The farm is cash only (nearest ATMs at Leopold, Ocean Grove or the Wallington servo) and pets are not allowed for biosecurity reasons. The heritage apple varieties are the farm's quiet specialty, with tastings that introduce visitors to apples that never reach supermarket shelves. Winter pruning and grafting workshops pass on skills from nearly ninety years of continuous orcharding, and places book out quickly once dates are announced each autumn.
Pro tip: come in autumn to pair strawberry picking with the heritage apple tastings.
