Bunya Grove Produce is a 400-acre biodynamic farm at Amamoor in the Mary Valley, growing sweet seedless Jiro persimmons alongside honey, eggs, pork and beef. Persimmon picking runs through the late-summer harvest at farm-gate prices, and the property also offers buggy tours, camping and farm stays.
Bring your own box for picking, and check the farm's Facebook page for each season's hours: recent seasons have run weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings rather than full days. The farm also sells at the Noosa and Kawana farmers markets if you miss the picking window. Amamoor is around two and a half hours north of Brisbane, near the Mary Valley Rattler heritage railway.
Pro tip: non-astringent Jiro persimmons can be eaten crisp like an apple, so taste one in the orchard before you fill the box.
