Explore other regionsSydney's fruit picking opportunities extend across New South Wales' diverse growing regions, from the historic orchards of the Hawkesbury to the elevated farms of the Blue Mountains. The Sydney basin's temperate climate, with warm summers and mild winters, supports year-round growing across its varied landscapes.
The Hawkesbury region, following the fertile floodplains of the Hawkesbury River, has been NSW's fruit bowl since colonial times. Rich alluvial soils deposited over millennia create perfect conditions for stone fruits and citrus. West of Sydney, the Blue Mountains rise to over 1,000 metres, where cooler temperatures and higher rainfall support berry farms and apple orchards in villages like Bilpin, known as "Apple Country."
The Central Coast, an hour north of Sydney, offers a unique microclimate where coastal breezes meet fertile valleys, producing exceptional strawberries and stone fruits. Sydney's picking season peaks from October through March, with something ripening in each month as the season progresses from berries through stone fruits to late-summer harvests.
